In this modern world, people are constantly saying, “Life is too stressful!” How can we rid ourselves of stress? The following are some recommendation for you to relieve yourself of stress by Grand Master Hsing Yun.

Enhance your knowledge and wisdom by observing and learning from your surrounding. You can reduce stress by gaining further knowledge and deepening your understanding.

Be optimistic, cheerful and carefree! Open your heart as wide as the ocean, so you can embrace the universe. Be optimistic about everything and do not overburden yourself, and you will eventually alleviate stress.

Cultivate detachment. Like a piece of luggage, carry it only when you need it and put it away when you do not need it. Avoid being calculative and comparative, you will eventually dissipate stress.

Befriend stress. Accept stress as part of you and a part of life and do not fight it.

Make use of every opportunity to rest and go with the flow. When you do not ask for stress or resent it, stress will eventually disappear.

Place more emphasis enhancing patience, compassion and wisdom by cultivating the self. Let us train ourselves to challenge and take on stress. Then it will eventually be dispelled.

Chinese culture is deeply rooted in the belief of Fate and Luck. The notion that one’s fate is basically set on the day of birth gives rise to what is called Heaven Luck. It is Heaven Luck-Fate or Ming – that decides whether one is born into a poor or rich family; or born with mental disabilities or physical deformities; or just born normal. Examples of people born with Heaven Luck include royalties and descendants of rich and famous people.

Luck on the other hand, is seen as the occurrence of fortunate or adverse events. Good and bad luck affect all persons at one time or another, and according to Chinese Astrology and Feng Shui doctrines, these moments of good and bad luck are predefined and can be calculated and projected beforehand. The Chinese word for luck is Yun or Man Luck, which describes the good and bad periods of a person’s life. Man Luck can also defined as one who works his way up in life through his perseverance, determination and hardwork. Examples of people with Man Luck are self-made millionaires and successful professional in their respective fields.

Classical text also states that a person can improve his (her) Man Luck by living in virtue. This teaching stresses that when a person practises positive attitudes toward life and to others, the results will diffuse whatever bad luck that is prevalent in his (her) life at any time.

Finally, by being at the right place at the right time, a person can literally boost and enhance his (her) Man Luck further, to overcome any obstacles that may lay in the way. The trick is to find that right place at the right time, or in other words, to find where good Earth Luck is abundant.

This is where the science and art of Feng Shui come into play. Feng Shui provides a person with the knowledge and the ability to enhance the Earth Luck of a location so that it enhances his (her) own Man Luck. Very often, the positive outcomes of this enhancement can also help the person overcome any disadvantages that his (her) Heaven Luck has bestowed upon him (her) at birth. Therefore, while one may be bore with many disadvantages during birth, these can eventually be overcome by having the right attitudes toward life. Through the knowledge and practice of Feng Shui, the person’s life is further enhanced so that his (her) journey towards better health, wealth, and relationships can become a real possibility.

Not many people can really define happiness, except to say that it is a state of mind. Happiness is the absence of unhappiness, the absence of pain and the absence of sorrow. More than that, happiness is a deep-felt joy that rises from somewhere very profound inside you, then it rumbles forth, surfacing upwards into your consciousness, causing you to break into smiles. To stay happy, here are some ways to create happiness base.

Delete all negative motivations, convictions and beliefs from your consciousness. Write them down and then burn them. Compile them and then box them away. List all the negative fears you have ever felt and then tear them up and scatter them to the four directions.

Destroy ugly pictures of unhappiness moments in your life. Keep only happiness photographs.

Do not listen to sad music whose lyrics make you think of broken dreams and unrequited love – but do differentiate between inspiring music, which does have touches of melancholy, and outright sad music, which can give you an overdose of yin feelings.

Keep a safe distance from people who bring out negative emotions in you; who make you feel bad about yourself; people who make you feel inadequate; irritated and anything else that shakes your self-confidence. Until you feel able to stay detached from their power it is better to remove them, at least temporarily, from your space.

Seek out those who build up your self-esteem, who encourage and inspire you, whose energy lifts your spirits.

Finally, the person in charge of the happiness base is you yourself. If you create sensors within the brain and say to yourself that you really prefer happiness to unhappiness as a regular state of mind, you will find it increasingly easier to create this happiness base and to build on it.

To set yourself up to receive great good fortune, the mind has to be receptive…

to success if you want to become successful,

to wealth if you want to become rich,

to good health as a way of life if you want to be healthy and

has to be accepting of happiness if you want to be happy.

Please do not think that we are all automatically and equally amenable to good fortune. You will be surprised at the number of people who are convinced they are either not good enough or not worthy enough of receiving all the things they want. Absurd as its sounds, some people even believe it is a sin to be rich! This has to do with attitudes and expectations and is perhaps one of the most important factors that determine whether people succeed or not; whether they are happy or not.

When you set yourself up for happiness, you do everything you can to achieve this goal. You plan. You prepare. And you work. In short, you load the dice strongly in your favour by doing all you can at the conscious levels to prepare yourself for it. But you should also orientate your mind to expect happiness, to expect the achievement of your wishes in your inner mind. The same is true of success, health and wealth. To set yourself up for these manifestations of good fortune, you must work on reinforcing three important attitudes.
1. You must believe in yourself 100 per cent.
2. You must be genuinely determined to want good fortune.
3. You must strongly expect to succeed.

These are the three ingredients required for the mind to accept success, accept happiness, accept wealth and accept health.

Positive expectations almost always lead to positive outcomes! The human mind works in ways that can astound us, and the more we understand the mind, the more control we have over its awesome powers. When you expect to succeed, the mind establishes motivations inside you that make you work towards that success, sometimes even calling forth abilities and skills you never suspected you had. The inner mind draws on reserves of hidden energy and creativity, and propels you into action. The mind works unobtrusively and without you consciously realizing it. That is why you often ask yourself why you do the things you do, why you listen to your instincts…

It is like survival. When pushed to the limits of endurance, the surface mind is so exhausted that the inner mind takes over; it draws on special energies that give the body renewed strength to go to the extra mile, take the extra step. How often have we read miraculous tales of survival! The human body can come out of many situations intact – as long as the mind stays alive and the will to live is paramount.

It is also like a mother’s protective instincts. When confronted with danger which threatens her child, a mother finds strength from deep inside her. Driven by the powerful emotion of a mother’s love, the mind responds to the inner instinctive scream for more energy and releases whatever extra strength is needed to save the child.

Depression is characterized by extreme sadness, a sense of hopelessness and despair. It is caused by a variety of “lack factors,” including lack of sleep, lack of nutrients, lack of light, and lack of love. Adrenal exhaustion, cold and damp conditions in the body, and hormonal and chemical imbalances can also contribute to depression.

Sometimes depression is simply caused by a series of very sad, life-challenging or threatening events. Like that smoke detector, depression is the symptom, not the cause, and is an indicator that things are awry. Fortunately, there are many treatments that can help alleviate depression and one of them is healing through reading.

A wonderful book to read during times of depression is Care of the Soul: A Guide to Cultivating Depth and Sacredness in Everyday Life by Thomas Moore. Though the book is certainly not about depression, it is in essence a guide to living soulfully in a trouble world – and this is soul food for a trouble spirit. But don’t limit yourself to just one book; read any kind of literature that lifts your spirits and soothes your soul. You can also visit my website http://www.101selfdevelopment.com on how to enhance your spirit.

Feng shui draws its understanding of human personality from its diverse roots in Chinese culture, which is replete with numerous forms of astrology and divination. While Chinese astrology and divination are not integral parts of feng shui, they draw upon many of the same concepts and one of them is the Five Elements Personality that reveals the basic personality of who you are.

Here are the elemental personalities of your birth year:

Fire
Fire people are naturally emotional and expressive. They show a special felicity with etiquette and fashion. Those who express a particularly yang brand of fire can become aggressive; those with yin fire are often introverted, secretly burning like a forge within.

Earth
Earth people are natural caretakers; they typically make nurturing parents and caring medical professionals. They are trustworthy, pragmatic and “down to earth.”

Metal
Metal people are righteous, dependable, precise and often extremely effective communicators. They’re capable of admirable willpower. Their powers of reasoning coupled with their ability to communicate make them powerful leaders.

Water
The water element manifests in two aspects: “still” and “moving”. Those who are more inclined to the still aspect tend to be “deep”, reflective, contemplative and wise. Moving water people are highly motivated and sociable, but sometimes a bit unstable.

Wood
Wood people are kind and strongly principled. They can be rigid and inflexible. When their element is well balanced, they are both deeply “rooted” and capable of bending to adapt to new situations.

If you don’t identify strongly with the elemental personality of your year of birth, it may be that your month or day element dominates. Most often, our year element places the most noticeable stamp on us, but it’s by no means the only influence.

Feng shui does not generally offer specific cures for medical problem; instead, it helps you create a beneficial, peaceful environment in which you are more likely to remain healthy. But although there are no explicit cures for individual diseases, certain aspects of feng shui do concern particular regions of the body. Each major organ of the body relates to a specific element. When you develop problems in an organ, you may be lacking adequate nourishment from its corresponding element, or you may be living with too much of the element that controls it.

Let’s take a look at several major organs and their corresponding elements, and examine the feng shui remedies you can perform to strengthen that organ’s health.

Heart

The heart’s element is fire. Every symbol (colour, shape, season and so forth) related to fire is also associated with the heart. If you lack fire energy in your home, boost your heart’s health by adding more fiery symbols to your environment; candles, triangles and summertime images. Decorate with red tones and add a few orange accents. If there’s too much fire, tone it down with some water energy.

Certain foods carry the symbolic energy of fire. To boost heart health, enjoy “reddish” foods such as tomatoes and strawberries.

Lungs

The lungs are closely associated with metal, perhaps because of metal’s association with “transactions” – the lungs are constantly exchanging oxygen for carbon dioxide. Help you lungs do their job by enhancing metal symbolism in your life; bring more whites and metallic colours into your environment. Accent your décor with metal objects. A metal chiming clock with pleasant ticking sound and chime may prove especially beneficial, both because of its material and because the rhythmic ticking mimics the steady rhythm of breathing and moving qi.

You may also want to enrich your diet with foods that carry metal symbolism: potatoes, chicken, fish, scallops and egg whites.

The Liver

The liver, because of its vital cleansing function, is strongly associated with springtime and renewal and, as a result, is the domain of wood – springtime’s element. Promote better liver health with green, growing plant and wood energy. Decorate with vibrant greens and blues. Introduce tall, upward-stretching shapes into your décor: vertical stripes, tall statues and figures.

Feed your liver a diet rich in the foods that carry vibrant green wood energy: spinach, broccoli, celery and peas.

The Stomach

Because of its central role in our health – and perhaps because of its central location in our bodies – the stomach is associated with earth, the same element that dominates the tai chi center of our homes.

Sooth digestive difficulties with earth symbolism: yellows and other earthly colours. Decorate with square or rectangular shapes. Enrich your diet with “earthly” foods, like yellow squash, carrots and eggs.

I’d like to leave you with one final thought on the topic of feng shui and your health. The symbolic remedies are an enhancement, a helpmate to your regular health regimen. They must never be a substitute for professional medical care and the advice of a competent physician / doctor.

Suffering happens to all of us. It seems to come without warning, no matter how hard we try to avoid it. We assume it is bad, and do everything we can to push it away, and when we can’t we suffer even more.

So, how to transform problem into happiness is what we need to know and here are the advices from Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

What we need to do is interpret suffering in a different way. Firstly, by understanding that everything we experience is the fruit of our past actions, that we are the creators of our own reality, we can greet the problem without panic, without self-pity or blame. If we can change it, we do so; if not, we accept it. Just this changes our experience of it, lessens the suffering, calms the mind, and gives courage.

Secondly, we can feel good about the problem, be glad it’s there. As Rinpoche says, “The thought of liking problems should arise naturally, like the thought of liking ice cream!” We realize that the mere experiencing of the problem finishes the karma we created in the past that caused it; when a fruit ripens, the seed is finished.

Thirdly, if we welcome our problem as a challenge, we can actually use it to our advantage. Having problems then becomes a method for developing our amazing potential. Just like when it comes to achieving our ordinary life goals, we are full of admiration for the athletes, the businesspeople, and the artists who never give up in the face of incredible obstacles. We understand that their courage and perseverance in conquering the obstacles is what actually helps them accomplish their goals; it’s a method in itself.

It is the three sources of energy that embellish our existence: that is, heaven (tien), earth (ti) and man (ren). Some call this luck; others call it qi. It can be viewed as the breath, the essence or the life force of existence. It can manifest itself either physically or spiritually, and it can subsist at different planes of consciousness.

The philosophy of heaven (tien), earth (ti) and man (ren)

Heaven luck is associated with destiny. It is what one is born with. No one has dominion over the circumstances of his or her birth, nor of the good and bad periods of one’s life. This is why all the great cultures of the world have divination methods that attempt to read one’s fate and destiny based on birth charts and other methods of fortune telling. This is why prayer is so powerful, and why religion is such a vital part of life’s existence. Divine help from heaven is not under mankind’s control. Although one has no control over Heaven luck, one’s life can be improved by creating positive earth luck and good mankind luck.

Earth luck is generally referred to as Feng Shui luck and is within our control. Earth luck is the luck that comes from the environment and this gets strengthened when the feng shui of one’s surrounding is auspicious. Feng Shui luck brings opportunities, improves chances of success, enhances our living condition and creates peace and goodwill in our relationships.

But Feng Shui luck reaches its maximum potential only when accompanied by equally strong and excellent mankind luck which is also within our control.

Thus while having good feng shui brings opportunities for advancement and the promise of higher incomes, if one does not seize the opportunity, or work at complementing one’s propitious fortune with good old fashioned hard work, a positive attitude and a determined outlook, all of which are components of mankind luck, then all your good feng shui gets squandered!

Mankind luck is the luck you create for yourself. It refers to your conduct, action, attitude, judgment, skills and so on.

Together these three lucks signify the trinity of energy that shapes our life.
